Job Description

Northern Health is accepting applications for Care Aide for Acropolis Manor.  This is a permanent part time (.77 FTE) position and offers the ability to pick up casual hours.

Acropolis Manor
Acropolis Manor is composed of three units East Pod, North Pod and West Pod. All Pods are located on the main floor. There are 56 beds including 3 respite beds plus 5 short stay beds. Acropolis Manor is attached to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital through a covered link on one end. Downtown is minutes away and residents can access Handi-Dart and taxi services as needed. Recreation opportunities are established by the Recreation Therapist who develops therapeutic and leisure interventions that are tailored to support the mental, physical, social and spiritual well-being of the residents who live at Acropolis Manor.

Job Summary
As a Care aide you provide care to residents in accordance with the organization’s philosophy, goal and objectives. Assists residents to meet their physical, emotional and psychological needs that facilitate independence.

Top 4 Key Responsibilities

  • Performs duties such as assisting residents with personal care, establishing bathing schedules, completing bathing routines, maintaining resident records as appropriate, serving meals and snacks, portering residents, and maintaining equipment.
  • Assists in various programmes for social, recreational, divers ional, and physical therapy.
  • Applying and changing external urinary drainage devices under the direction of a nurse and with training.
  • Administer suppositories and enemas under the direction of a nurse and with training.

Job Qualifications

  • Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program.
  • Registration with the BC Care Aide Registry is required.
  • Recent (within 5 years) experience in a long term care / complex care setting with experience working with the elderly / disabled in the community OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the resident population.
