Job Description

Northern Health is accepting applications for a permanent full-time medical/surgical nurse at Fort St. John Hospital & Health Centre.

Fort St. John Hospital is a 46-bed hospital with 115 residential care beds in the adjoining Peace Villa Care Home.  They have two state of the art operating rooms, ambulatory clinics including cancer care and hemodialysis, emergency and ICU, a birthing centre with single maternity rooms for labour, delivery and post-partum.

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in the medical/surgical unit you are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and nursing practice activities.

Top Three Key Responsibilities

  • Compiles and implements an individualized plan of nursing care based on identification of patient’s needs from medical and nursing histories, physical assessment and observation.
  • Provides nursing care to assigned patients, and performs procedures such as monitoring vital signs, regulating and administering drugs and fluids, checking and changing dressings and assisting the attending physician with treatments.
  • Sets up and operates equipment such as suction, oxygen, humidifiers, I.V. Therapy Control Pumps and Patient Mechanical Lifts. Checks all equipment to ensure it is in safe working order. Reports repair requirements immediately to the Head Nurse.

 Job Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nursing Professionals as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Current CPR, IV Therapy and Blood Glucose Monitoring certificates.
