Job Description

Northern Health is currently accepting applications for a full time ICU nurse in Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre.  Join the team in providing care to ICU patients that includes assessment and treatment of care.

Fort St. John Hospital is a 46-bed hospital with 115 residential care beds in the adjoining Peace Villa Care Home.  They have two state of the art operating rooms, ambulatory clinics including cancer care and hemodialysis, emergency and ICU, a birthing centre with single maternity rooms for labour, delivery and post-partum.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager, Med/Surg; ICU; In-patients, is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients presenting in the ICU Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides intensive and coronary nursing care according to physician’s orders in conformance with established standards and hospital policy.
  • Assesses patient needs, develops and implements an individual plan of nursing care.
  • Observes and reports symptoms and condition of patients to the appropriate person, modifies care as needs change and initiates immediate treatment if required. Monitors, interprets and reports monitor printouts to the appropriate physician.
  • Documents records of treatment, medications, observations and nursing care in the patient’s Health Record in accordance with documentation standards.

Job Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Current C.P.R., I.V. Therapy and Blood Glucose Monitor and Ventilator Certificates mandatory.
  • In-house Coronary Care Course Certificate or equivalent.
  • One (1) year full-time recent experience in intensive care.
