AHS is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Adult to join the Cardiology NP team at the Rockyview General Hospital. This position is one of several NP positions that is building a strong NP model of care delivery within the Cardiology service. This position will provide frontline clinical care within all aspects of the delivery of cardiac care at RGH including primary assignment to Coronary Care and consults within the emergency department, and support to the medical cardiology and inpatient units. NP coverage on site is 24/7.The NP will manage patients admitted to the cardiac service and collaborate with the cardiac services team including Physicians, inpatient and outpatient nursing staff and leaders, allied health team members, subspecialists and RGH administration to ensure seamless transfers into and out of hospital for this complex, high needs, patient group. You will provide comprehensive, holistic and patient-family centred care and contribute patient care through advanced clinical practice, leadership, consultations, referrals, education and research.In addition, you will provide nursing education and leadership locally, provincially and nationally, and will be involved in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and program development related to cardiology. The NP requires strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with staff, the management team, physicians and all members of the interdisciplinary team. The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse who is prepared at the graduate level and functions in a collaborative practice model. The Cardiology NP demonstrates comprehensive knowledge in the area of medical and surgical critical care as well as the diagnosis and differential diagnosis, advanced assessment skills and treatment surrounding patients as part of the Cardiology and Critical Care team. The Cardiology NP role integrates aspects of nursing and medicine to coordinate the care of cardiology patients. Collaboration between these two disciplines is a key component of the Cardiology NP role and utilizing the interdisciplinary team is vital to providing comprehensive care to patients. Providing access to care is a key function of the Cardiology NP role. Direct care is provided through application of knowledge in advanced assessment skills, pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutics, and applicable interventions. These capabilities support the development of differential diagnoses and need for further interventions. The role of the Cardiology NP will help provide continuity of care to more complex patients and provides continuity as part of the interdisciplinary team to patients and their families. This role also includes time for participation in relevant research and education. Education for bedside Registered Nurses (RNs) and interdisciplinary team members is a component of this NP role. NP practice standards must be met according to the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).This position is one of several NP positions that provides a strong NP model of care delivery within the Cardiology service supporting care in the CCU, ED, and inpatient ward 24/7.
Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing Science or a graduate program in a related discipline.Current registration with CARNA as a NP.Current ACLS and BCLS-HCP certifications.Must be able to support flexible work schedule, including weekends and nights.Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.Ability to function independently while still being in a supervised position for the first 6-12 months of this role.Excel at working in a dynamic fast paced environment.Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and stressful situations.Application and knowledge of current research.Participation in research and an ongoing interest in research.Additional Required Qualifications:
